Green Mountain Bluff House
A spectacular wooded site was the prime inspiration for this residence. The commanding view of the valley determines the house’s southern orientation. A combination of decks and patios surrounds the house, creates a transition between interior and exterior spaces, and invites outdoor activity. From the dynamic entry porch, one can see past the gallery and public spaces and through the back door to the views beyond. The public spaces contain generous glazed openings that open to and engage the view. The private spaces flank a central corridor. The house features an open plan, abundant light, good cross-ventilation, and magnificent views. The roof forms follow a gentle slope and extend well beyond the exterior walls, opening toward the sky and creating a sculptural play of roof forms. The house is grounded with stonework. Dark-painted fiber-cement panels clad the exterior walls. Gypsum board walls, with minimal interior trim, sculpt the interior spaces. An open-riser stair connects the main floor to the exercise room below and the open-air observation area above. Careful detailing results in thoroughly contemporary interior spaces. All these elements contribute to the success of this beautiful bluff house.
