Organic Bluff House

A couple with ambitious goals and a wonderful bluff lot engaged Arcspace Studio to design their forever home. We accomplished that goal in two phases. The first phase was to design an elegant and efficient garage apartment. The second, a few years later, was to attach that garage apartment to a primary residence and reassign it as the guest house. An open porch serves as the connector and allows passers-by to get a glimpse of the City view, which the owners enjoy in virtually every room. The house, with its low-slung roof, broad overhangs, and earth-tone materials, grows out of the site. The interior spaces ebb and flow with various ceiling heights and a rich palette of materials. Large expanses of glass provide wonderful daylight while also allowing for dynamic views. Doors open onto a partially covered deck, allowing the owners to enjoy being outside and take advantage of what the site has to offer.
