The Poppy & Parliament
Arcspace Studio was tasked with fitting out a vacant storefront on the courthouse square for an early-20th-century-themed English pub – The Poppy. This was followed two years later by the fit-out of the adjacent space as a restaurant—Parliament. Both projects shared the same design approach of exposing the original brick walls and wood floors, and adding new materials such as dark walnut-stained panels and tin to evoke the mood of the World War One era, hence the poppy theme. Each space maintains its identity while also being connected through a large opening in the brick demising wall. A pass-through window at the Poppy serves generous outdoor seating. A stair between the Poppy and the Parliament is accessed from the outdoor dining area and leads to a gourmet store and butcher shop. The façade frame was treated with the dominant red color, and the newer brick was painted a neutral color.
