NextGen Homes was a design competition hosted by the Green Spaces of Chattanooga. The entrants were to design four single family detached houses designed for extremely steep sites near an art district. Teaming with Chattanooga firm, MAR-7 Architecture, our submission featured four houses, each with two levels, which differed only in the placement of floor plates.
The uphill units were designed to be entered on the upper floor, which contained the public areas, with the bedrooms and private areas on the lower floor. That scheme is then reversed on the downhill units. That scheme is then reversed on the downhill units. Sustainability was a major design component and passive and active solar elements were incorporated, as well as intelligent uses of materials and systems. The project received an honorable mention.
