Twickenham Minimal Traditional

A couple living in a historic home sought ways to open up the flow of the common spaces in their conventional home. True to the original style of the home, most rooms were compartmentalized and did not function well when family and friends visited. The second story above the foyer had an enclosed space that mostly sat unused.  Opening up the space to the foyer and reworking the surrounding rooms created a grand entrance hall with the new structural beams becoming a focal point. The first floor was redesigned to allow for an open-concept kitchen, breakfast area, and dining room with space for guests to congregate. A new spacious mudroom and laundry room established a versatile connection between the existing home and existing garage. Second-story renovations included a new ensuite bathroom for one of the guest bedrooms, reworking the entrance into the home gym, and providing more storage. The renovation of this charming house also features some unexpected surprises such as the new entrance to the master suite through a hidden panel door in the formal living room.
