Working within the Slope Zoning restrictions, the house is sited to maximize the pristine eastern views and to limit rock excavation. All the essential functions are on the entry level: garage, living, dining, kitchen, and a second master/guest suite. The master suite on the upper level is stretched out along the view with individual baths and closets behind it, and connected to the exercise/guest suite by a long balcony overlooking the great room. The lower level also has east views from the family room, bedroom, and even the workshop/garage. The entry level has a large sun room with a continuous “eyebrow” roof overhang to control the southern sun. The four foot overhangs everywhere protect the stucco and allow for better cross ventilation from the windows, when opened. The deck, off the living room, captures the view and shelters the terrace outside the family room below. A concrete safe room and shelter is in the lower level garage, with the masonry media room offering additional shelter.
